- What it looks like now:

bottom: UPS;
middle: main board (and fan on top);
top: SSD.
The micro SD card taped on the left is the card it needs to boot from when the SSD is still empty, it does not serve a purpose after installing the OS on the SSD. - 2025-10-25
- Correct bad board sequence. Notice that there is no way to connect the SSD board now, so need to make threaded bits from bolts, cutting off their heads! Still same message: power not able to supply 5A, USB peripherals will be restricted. UPS also “connects” to main board via “pogo” pins, which are spring-loaded touch contacts (no friction) on soldering points!

- UPS batteries arrived, put them in (needs force, they are max. possible length).
When running through the UPS Ubuntu complains at startup that the power supply is not sufficient for USB devices (but keyboard & mouse do work). - 2025-10-22
- Runs Ubuntu + gnome, interface settings not as desired but not important. Ready for server software installation, but perhaps better wait until UPS batteries arrive.

- All parts except UPS batteries arrived.
Powered up, and it boots from the microSD card with an entire GUI interface OS.
Use Paspberry Pi Imager to download & install Ubuntu LTS on the 1TB SSD.
Remove the microSD, and then it autmoatically boots from the SSD.
Measure power: only slightly more than 3W; going to 7W when writing the OS to the SSD. - 2025-10-16
- Find that Ubuntu may not run smoothly on the RPi5 with 16GB! (https://linuxvox.com/blog/download-ubuntu-for-arm/)
Also perhaps unclearhow to install it (https://linuxvox.com/blog/download-ubuntu-for-arm/ - 2025-10-15
- Ordered the hardware parts from KUBII:
- RPi5,16GB
- UPS
- SSD 1TB<
- M.2 HAT for SSD
- power supply 27W

- Server Lunch (Dina, Jesse, Albert, Robert); HW decisions agreed. Wait for HW to come.
