At Agua canyon, there was this van parked at the overlook point. Compared to the other camper vans (recreational vehicles or RVs) this one looked tiny. Robert measured its length by stepping it off and found it to be not more than 6 meters. This activity had attracted the attention of the owner, who declared it to be "twenty-one feet including the bicycle rack" (6.4 m, so I was close). Of course Robert took this opportunity to open a conversation about the thing with the couple driving it, and we were duly invited to inspect the interior. Built on a Chevrolet chassis, converted to a camper in Canada, this van has a double bed, kitchen, toilet and shower. The facilities are cleverly combined to squeeze as much as possible into a manageable-size vehicle that one could even imagine to operate in Europe's cities. There are three water tanks: "white" for drinking, showering and washing dishes. This water is then recuperated into the "grey" tank, which is used to flush the toilet. That is in turn held in the "black" tank and eventually flushed out at the RV stations. Thus one is autonomous for up to three days. "Mileage" is pretty good: 12liter/100km on the open road. |
