From the panel at the ruins: "These walls are testimony to the building skills of the Anasazi. The "cut-away" drawing shows how sandstone blocks (A) shaped to fit, were carefully set in a mixture of mud mortar and small stones called "spalls". Lintels (B) for wall openings such as door or vents were made of short sticks. Roofs were supported by beams (C) 15 to 20cm in diameter, laid across the narrowest dimension of the room with half a meter between them. A layer of smaller poles (D) was placed atop the beams. These poles were covered with reeds and finally a 15cm layer of packed earth (E). Walls were often plastered. The mortar and plaster lines on the cliff above the standing wall indicate the location of former rooms which formed a multi-storied tower providing access to the upper level."
