Condors

California condors went nearly extinct.

Then a captive breeding programme
was successful enough to permit
release into the wild of some groups.

The protected environment of the
Grand Canyon is one place where
they have been reintroduced.

Scientific Name: Gymnogyps Californianus

Population low: 22 individuals in 1982
Current Population: 205 individuals.

Life span: Unknown, possibly up to 60 years.

Wingspan: up to 3 meters!
Weight: averages 7 to 10 kg,
body length: 120 to 140cm
